IV Iron (ferinject) for Iron Deficiency Anaemia
From 1 October 2017, pharmacies have been able to dispense ferric carboxymaltose (ferinject), fully funded, to patients with a valid Special Authority approval.
POAC funding of the IV infusion is available for eligible patients residing in Counties Manukau DHB catchment upon completion of the online referral form. POAC does not cover the cost of the drug, however the $5 prescription fee may be claimed if this is a barrier for the patient accessing treatment.
Provided all criteria are met, a voucher will be provided which can then be redeemed once the patient has had the infusion.
Funding for the IV infusion is currently only available for patients residing in Counties Manukau District Health Board catchment. Refer to the POAC funding criteria document.
